Elko (Nevada) Police Sergeant received lucrative buy-out after City declares defeat
A Sergeant employed by the Elko (Nevada) Police Department was interviewed 3 times and 3 separate pre-termination hearings were convened to fire him. At each interview and hearing, Richard McCann, now the Plan Administrator and Chief Labor Representative for the Nevada Association of Public Safety Officers (NAPSO), contested the proceedings and challenged the employer’s biased and pre-determined outcomes. After becoming exhausted by McCann’s persistence, the City of Elko offered a buy-out of the Sergeant, spending nearly $200,000 to buy his last years of service towards his retirement, as well as paying him a lump sum settlement to end the case.
